As our current couch and loveseat became increasingly worn, I tried to come up with temporary solutions to extend their lifespan, like buying a set of covers and positioning throw blankets over the back cushions. But when springs suddenly started breaking through a couple weeks back, I knew it was time to put the temporary fixes aside
and start thinking about replacing the set altogether.
This time, instead of buying a separate couch and loveseat,
Stephen and I are looking at corner couch models, including the following two contenders from Ikea. (I’m very
disappointed that our current set from JC Penney has lasted less than three years.)

After checking them both out in person, I think
we’re leaning a bit more toward the second one, since it seems to be slightly more spacious and comfortable, and
also has a great crawl space underneath where Molly and Twix could play without any risk of getting “stuck” or losing their toys.
We still haven’t made a final decision, but one thing I
definitely love about both of these couches is our ability to buy replaceable
covers should the original fabric become
worn or damaged. Have you ever purchased a couch from Ikea before, and which
of these do you like best? I’ll be sure
to let you know what we decide!
P.S. Thanks so much for all of your helpful advice about the Writer's Digest Conference. While I didn't sign up in time to get the early bird discount, I still have more time to think about it and make a decision in the coming weeks.
We got our thats kind of like that expect we got a 3 piece set. We got ours at Ashleys Furniture, got a really good deal. Should try and check out something like that! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought an IKEA couch before, but many of my friends have and are happy with the versatility and quality. I like the look of the second one as well, and it's a bonus that the kitties can play underneath it.
ReplyDeletei haven't purchased anything from IKEA (we live so far from one) but all of our friends who have, have only raved about it. and lots of bloggers have raved about IKEA as well.
ReplyDeletei think the second one is perfect!
We bought our kitchen table chairs from ikea for $12 6 years ago thinking they would be a temporary set. Still going strong today and not a scratch on any of them. I say go for it!
ReplyDeleteI like them both, to me, the first looks more comfortable and the second looks more sleek and modern. We bought a sectional from Value City Furniture 2 years ago and a couple of the cushions have already sagged and lost their fluff so I'm a bit disappointed. Maybe we should try IKEA next time.
ReplyDeleteI like the 2nd one, too.
ReplyDeleteWe like sectionals a lot. That's our next purchase for the living room, too.
We have a KARLSTAD sofa and love it! We don't have the big corner sofa, but a smaller sectional (the loveseat with the chaise lounge attached). It's really comfortable, durable (we've had ours for several years now), and easy to clean. The grey color looks great in person!
ReplyDeleteI've seen that Ikea couch and it looks really good! We're in the same situation, having to pick out new furniture, and it's tough!
ReplyDeleteYou can't go wrong with either of these couches!! We had to break down and get a new one last May.

That's such a shame your JCP couch only lasted 3 years, you'd think it would last a bit longer! I like the second couch as well. My friend has a similar style couch from ikea and it's quite comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI hear good things about the Karlstad, actually. We're using another IKEA couch much like it at the moment and really like it.
ReplyDeleteBonus: The L in the L couch allows you to lie down on the long section, and the kitties have a huge spot to claim as their own on the short end, right next to your head. :P
I have so much stuff from Ikea its insane! But I pimped it my way (that sounds horrible I know) so its ok. I like the first one better if the room is really big since its a true snuggle couch. If your living isnt that enormous I'd go with number 2 :)

I like the second sofa best. Sorry to hear that your current sofa only lasted a few years.
ReplyDeleteI have my heart set on owning a pink sofa someday soon.

I haven't bought any couches from ikea and I like the second as well. My mom always suggested buying a good couch ago it lasts a long time. I think the one in my parents family room was bought 15 years ago, still in great condition....
ReplyDeleteThat Karlstad couch is pretty sleek! We have had our leather couch for 2.5 hours and while it is fine, I have been itching to switch up our living room set. We will see!

there's a small one that i want from ikea that turns into a slide out bed! great choices
ReplyDeleteOoooh I do like the second one better! We have 3 kitties, one of them loves to scratch, so we can't get nice couches just yet (until she's a bit older)

We've only had it for a couple of months, but are still in love with our Karlstad. And our kitties do love that they can go under it, unlike our old couch. It's fun for them to lie and wait under it, and then explode out and attack each other. Fun for all! :)
ReplyDeleteyay corner sofas! we have one from ikea we bought years ago and it's definitely treated us well. i like the one on the bottom, but really you can't go wrong. can't wait to see what you pick!
ReplyDeleteOur next big purchase will also be a sectional sofa as we are still using my in-laws for the time being! I def. like the second one as well, though both are nice! I have two dressers from Ikea that have served us well!
ReplyDeleteI love anything ikea...so you cannot go wrong.
